My name is Robert Scott. I have been married for 32 years and I have a grown up son. I was born in Horden and lived there for 27 years until I was married. I have been a resident of Peterlee since 2001 and I attended St Bede’s Comprehensive School in Peterlee.
I have had a very fulfilling career. I worked in the Civil Service at Executive Level for 17 years. which included a period of secondment working for the Prince’s Trust supporting and helping young people to set up their own business in the South Tyneside area.
Whilst working in the Civil Service I attended evening classes three times a week for five years at the University of Sunderland to obtain a History degree in order to become a school teacher. I was a school teacher for twenty-four years, including 12 years as a Deputy headteacher of a local school until my retirement in 2022.
My career has given me the opportunity to communicate with a wide range of people from many different backgrounds. As a teacher who believed strongly in working in partnership with parents, I have a good understanding of local people’s aspirations for themselves and their children.
Since my retirement in August 2022 I have been involved in helping to serve food and drinks at the Peterlee Warm Hub at the Methodist Church in Peterlee for two days a week. I was also involved with local residents in planting bulbs to make communal areas of Peterlee more picturesque.
I enjoy sports, particularly football and cricket, and played for Horden Cricket Club for many years. I am also a fair weather fisherman and have recently joined the angling club at Shotton Hall.
I am an energetic and enthusiastic person and I am really looking forward to working for and with the people of Peterlee.
